About Us

Dr. Robert Fisher (Ph.D., Harvard University) with Riyadh partner Sheikh Khalid Al-Rasheed on the Harvard University campus.

Designs on Learning™, a Boston, USA-based educational enterprise with partners based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was founded specifically for high school students residing in the MENA region to gain admission to the best U.S. college for them and to thrive there. The significant differences in the educational system of the MENA region versus the educational system in the U.S. require that students from that region who wish to study at U.S. colleges get assistance tailored to their specific needs. No other enterprise provides this. Our Gulf-centered program makes Designs on Learning™ unique.  ...

FAQ

What is the difference between The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques External Scholarship Program Admissions Counseling and Preparation Service and Top Ranked U.S. Colleges Admissions Counseling and Preparation Service?

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques External Scholarship Program Admissions Counseling and Preparation Service is for Saudi nationals only. If you are not from Saudi Arabia but want to be admitted to a top U.S. college and be well prepared to succeed there, you should enroll in our Top Ranked U.S. Colleges Admissions Counseling and Preparation Service. Aside from the citizenship requirement, the two services are very similar, with the exceptions being that The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques External Scholarship Program Admissions Counseling and Preparation Service comes with weekly check-in in both 11th and 12th grade; 12/7 phone availability in 11th grade and 24/7 phone availability in 12th grade during college application season; permits a maximum of 7 college applications; and appeal of any negative admission decisions. Our Top Ranked U.S. Colleges Admissions Counseling and Preparation Service does not include these features and permits a maximum of 5 college applications. If you are a Saudi national and have no interest in a Saudi government scholarship, then you are better off choosing our Top Ranked U.S. Colleges Admissions Counseling and Preparation Service.

Why should I pay for the either The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques External Scholarship Program Admissions Counseling and Preparation Service or Top Ranked U.S. Colleges Admissions Counseling and Preparation Service if I simply want to be placed at ANY U.S. college, not a top one?

You shouldn’t. We can place you in the best college for your interests and abilities. If you are interested in placement only and are not interested in academic preparation for undertaking college study in the U.S., then just enroll in our Placement Service: U.S. college (undergraduate).

Must I want to go to a top U.S. college in order to take advantage of the College Preparation Services you offer?

No. But in order to take advantage of the rigorous college preparation we provide, you would need to enroll in our Top Ranked U.S. Colleges Admissions Counseling and Preparation Service even if you do not care about getting into a top U.S. college. You may also enroll in certain features of The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques External Scholarship Program Admissions Counseling and Preparation Service and our Top Ranked U.S. Colleges Admissions Counseling and Preparation Service as separate services. Each of the following can be taken on its own or in any combination:

I am from a country other than Saudi Arabia. What services do you offer?

You can enroll in EVERY service we offer EXCEPT for The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques External Scholarship Program Admissions Counseling and Preparation Service, which is for Saudi nationals only

I am already enrolled in a U.S. college. What services do you offer that benefit me?

We offer:

  1. Comprehensive Academic Support Service: We provide an invasive support system for your coursework over an entire academic year. We advise on course selection and then monitor your progress through our digital platform, intervening to help you when red flags arise. This service incudes weekly check-in; special review sessions before exams; review of your written work; and intervention with your instructors – with whom we remain in close contact – when called for. It includes 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. EST phone availability.
  2. Emergency Legal/Medical Intervention Service: This special service serves as a form of insurance in case a student should encounter any legal difficulties or medical issues while in the U.S. Reachable 24/7 on our Emergency Phone Line, we will immediately notify the student’s family as well as the student’s embassy (with the family’s permission) and then dispatch a staff member to campus. For legal issues, our staff member will either resolve the matter with campus authorities/law enforcement, or else advise the student of his/her legal options and assist in identifying legal representation for the student. If the student is admitted to hospital, our staff member will remain with the student until family and/or embassy personnel arrive.
  3. Concierge Service: You may call on us for any kind of help that does not involve coursework, from special needs to visa concerns, travel plans, and legal questions, etc.
  4. Housing Assistance Service: We find you suitable off-campus housing, speak with the landlord, go carefully through the lease, and negotiate the best price possible for you. We will also intervene on your behalf against unwarranted charges/actions by the landlord.
  5. Dependents Liaison Service: We will find the local school that best suits your and your child’s needs, speak with the school administration, and enroll your child; furthermore, we will serve as a liaison between you and your child’s school throughout the year, providing translation services as needed.
  6. Post-graduate Internship Service: This service is intended specifically for those students in their final year of formal education in the U.S. who are seeking an internship for a year of post-graduation work experience. We will help you develop an impactful resume and cover letter and work with you on your interview skills to best position you to land the internship of your choice.
  7. Airport Pickup Service: We will send a car to meet you at the airport upon your arrival in the U.S. and transport you to your college of study.
  8. Placement: U.S. Graduate School: We will identify the best graduate programs for you; assist you with the application; secure any waivers for you that we can; and serve as liaison with the graduate programs to which you apply; we will support you in the entire process through to securing your visa to study in the U.S.
  9. Placement: U.S. Professional School: We will identify the best professional schools for you; assist you with the application; secure any waivers for you that we can; and serve as liaison with the professional schools to which you apply; we will support you in the entire process through to securing your visa to study in the U.S.

I am a self-paying student attending a U.S. college. Can you help me obtain a government scholarship?

In order to position yourself most favorably for the government scholarship, you should enroll in our Comprehensive Academic Support Service, which ensures you get the highest possible grades in your current courses and therefore makes you a desirable candidate for the government scholarship. However, we cannot intervene personally with the scholarship authorities.
